Al Start Writes & Produces Music for Amazing New Show
‘Not Today Celeste’ by Liza Stevens
Our very own Al Start has just finished writing, composing and producing the songs and music for a brand new production that is currently touring schools across the UK. Not Today Celeste by Bobble Hat Theatre company is based on the book by the very same author, Liza Stevens. It tells the story of Celeste, a little dog, and her owner Rupert.
Celeste is the happiest dog in the world until something strange starts happening to Rupert. She can’t quite work out what it is, but he is always tired, he sometimes forgets to feed her and he doesn’t seem to have fun anymore. Through Celeste’s story children can find out about depression and how it may affect their family. They learn it’s nothing to be afraid of and its nobody’s fault – it’s certainly nothing they have done wrong.
We follow Celeste’s journey as she seeks help, and eventually Rupert finds the help he needs to start feeling better.
The story is simple yet touching. The characters from Liza’s book have been brought to life in the form of beautifully made puppets – made by Liza herself who is a talented illustrator and maker as well as an author!
Al is narrating the show and playing and singing live throughout. Three puppeteers work as a magical team bringing the characters to life; Joni-Rae Anderson plays Celeste, Nix Woods and Daisy Jordan play Rupert and his friendly neighbour Lily.
The book published by Jessica Kingsley Publishing is available to buy on Amazon and has been used in schools via the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust who are a charity working in schools and communities with children and families affected by mental illness.
